Paraguay is known by its commercial activity and product exportation, but it also can be an interesting place to travel to. There are several nice places to visit and beautiful landscapes to see.
On November 2014, Jonathan Roider, a Swiss guest who stayed at Bambu went to Paraguay afterwards. Jonathan wrote to us telling his experience. Check it out.
“Hello Diogo and Bambu guys,
First of all: I really enjoyed my stay in paraguay and recommend it to people who like to travel a bit apart of the beaten track of lonely-planet-travellers.
I started in Ciudad Del Este and stayed at Hostel Casa Alta as you recommended. Nice place with a fantastic view over the city. I departed from Ciudad Del Este to Asunción, but stopped half way in Coronel Oviedo, because I wanted to travel north from there and altough there were no famous touristic spots there, it was still a good visit, because I was able to experience original South American life.
Then I went to the contryside, to a place alled “Granja El Roble” – a farm outside of Concepción with a lot of animals, great nature and comfort as well (even a pool!). The food that the family cooks with products from their own farm is fantastic!
The most impressive experience for me was the boat-trip on the Paraguay River from Concepción heading north. The “Aquidaban“ leaves once a week from Concepción towards Bahia Negra (it takes 3 days to get there). The boat is full of local people with lots of food and all kind of stuff. I got off the boat earlier (after one day) at Puerto Casado, a small village in the middle of nowhere. There I found a very basic, but quite nice place to stay, this place was the most authentic south-american experience on my trip.
The next day i was lucky to catch the bus to Lomo Plata (not sure if there are buses everyday), a small colony in the middle of Chaco. It’s a weird place with blond people speaking very old german, but quite exciting for me. I decided to continue my trip towards Bolivia. The only possibility to get there was to wait for the bus coming from Asunción that was supposed to pass there in the middle of the night. It arrived at 02:30 a.m., but it all worked out and I met very nice people while waiting.
