The Cultivando Água Boa (Cultivating Good Water, in english) is a program that represents the socioenvironmental responsibility and sustentable development of Itaipu Binacional. It was inserted in the strategic planning of the company in 2003. Itaipu’s mission: “to generate quality electrical power, with social and environmental responsibility, stimulating economic, sustainable technological and tourism development, in Brazil and Paraguay.” Thereby, five pillars guide the company’s performance: sustainability, clean energy output, technological development, tourism development and regional integration.
During the process of water care program, Itaipu Binacional company got beyond and created a big movement for sustainability. They realized that the same water which move the turbines to generate energy, is the water that gives life to the lake. It guarantee income to the fishermen that lives around; irrigates the fields, source of livelihood of many families; supplies citys; gives health and balance to the environmental. The interdependence of humans to the environment formatted the program.
The program brings in its name the ideia of movement, continuity, what you can learn by the nature that if you want something to grow and get stronger, you must cultivate it. When you talk about water, is not different. To keep it plentiful and with quality now and forever we need to look after it.
